This week we talked about the food pyramid and food groups. For this center, we decided what was a fruit, and what was a vegetable.
Soup anyone? We've got some in every letter. Each soup can had a letter of the alphabet on it and after the kids had mixed their soup up, they would spoon up a scoopful and distribute it into the correct can depending on the letter it had on it and the beginning sound.
Eating our veggies is as easy as 1, 2, 3. We had a lot of fun at this writing and counting center. We made our very own grocery list using picture cards to know the spelling. Then, we used our shopping cart and baskets to shop for the things on our grocery list.
For a math center, we played this Pizza Mania game. We had to use our listening ears to hear the chef tell us what ingredients to take off and put on our pizza, and if the pizza was made correctly at the end, we won!
Eating your colorful fruits is very important, but can you get them without making an avalanche? The first one to get one of each fruit wins!
We not only talked about what foods we should put into our bodies, but we talked about how our bodies work, and what we find under our skin. Check out our noodle x-ray craft.
We even had actual life like x-rays of each part of our body!
What's under those ribs?
"The foot bone's connected to the leg bone. The leg bone's connected to the thigh bone......"
Each organ has a special purpose in our body, and its amazing how it all works together to help us function correctly!
We also talked about how the heart pumps blood to each part of our body through our veins. We tried this experiment where we pumped the balloon to watch the water come up through the straws (veins).
And, we can help our bodies function properly with plenty of rest and exercise. The kids had some music and some exercise mats telling them what exercise to do for this center. I think the crab walk was the favorite!
Our Stars of the week this week were:
Our outdoorsy and fantastic fisherman friend, Mr. Max!
and
Our big brother, best buddy and birthday boy, Brett!
Happy Birthday Brett! We are so glad that we were able to celebrate part of your special day with you!
