Name that shape!

What did we cook up in preschool this week? Some shapes, of course. And, our shape chefs helped us distinguish each shape from each other. This batch of cookies were shaped as pentagons, ovals, and diamonds. Didn't they turn out cute?!

And, then we cooked up some shapes ourselves. We traced some shapes with our cookie crisp, and after we traced the shape, we tried out those yummy cookies!

Our math center this week helped us recognize numbers 1-10 by sight. If we weren't sure what a number was, we added some pegs to our numbered peg board, and counted them up!

For our writing center, we traced some shapes on our Sammy the Scarecrow. We had fun finding and counting all of his shapes. 

This center was perfect for our little fingers. We had the game perfection, with a bunch of shapes. We put them in their correct spot by looking at the outline on the board and adding its yellow shape. But, we had to hurry quick, before our time ran out. If not, the shapes popped out, and we had to start over again. 

And, we got so excited when we beat the timer!

These shape pegboards were fun for our little fingers! And, helped us associate our big and little shapes.

Our bean bag toss was a great hand-eye coordination activity. 

And, we had our water table out this week filled with some turtles. These turtles were missing their shells. But, no fear, we were able to find their shapes by matching the shape on the top of the turtles back, with the same shape on its shell. 

My daughter, McKenzie, has been off-track the last 3 weeks, and it has been so fun having her help in school. Here she is reviewing shapes with all of the kids! The kids have really grown to love her and can't wait until she is off-track again! (Me either, she is a big help!) :) 

Color mixing fun!

We learned about the secondary colors this week. There are so many fun books and activities to help see how the primary colors are mixed to create more colors! One book that we read this week was, Mouse Paint. I love all of the Mouse books by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Mouse Paint is a cute book about 3 mice that are hiding from the cat, but have some fun mixing colors too. They dance in the paint, just like our fingers did with this color mixing craft below.  

We also mixed colors with playdough this week. We had to work really hard to mix, mix, mix those colors. And, we used that playdough to craft some of our alphabet letters too.

More cutting practice this week! Here is a song that we like to sing as we cut:

This is a good reminder to have them thumb on the top, rather than underneath.

We also are learning this song to remind us how to properly use those scissors.

This math center helped us with our numbers 1-10 recognition. We had two sets of these stacking cups, and each set goes from 1-10 starting with number one on the biggest cup on the bottom. We took turns helping each other stack them in number (and size, and color) order. Some friends even made it a race to see who could stack the fastest.

We made some more patterns this week. This time we made some color patterns using our pattern strips and our associated ice cream scoop colors.

Everyone took their turn doing some writing practice this week. We worked on forming some different lines and shapes, and also the letter D.

These shape buttons and lacing cards helped us work on some fine motor sewing practice. 

And, we had fun separating our colors with our color tubes and beads. This was a great fine motor and pencil grip activity as well, because instead of picking the beads up with just our fingers, we had to squeeze our tweezers!

More color mixing fun! These blocks were not only fun for building, but also for seeing the room in every color of the rainbow! And, when we stacked two primary colors on top of each other, we saw what color they make together.
