Primary colors, patterns, and playdough!

We have officially started our alphabet adventure! We had fun with the letters A and B this week. We also worked on our patterns, fine motor skills, and counting! Below is an example of our primary color patterns, along with our letter B butterfly. What a great finish to our Very Hungry Caterpillar lesson last week! Our caterpillars turned into beautiful butterflies!

We had so much fun making our primary color patterns. And, these cute kiddos did such a great job coloring in the lines and choosing their color patterns. 

Mackenzy sure thought something was hilarious! :) 

Our counting bears helped us complete more primary color patterns!

We also used these great counting pegs to help us count to 10. Each peg can hold 10 counting chips.

Connect 4 is such a great game for counting and patterns! I love to use this game every year when we talk about the primary colors. This year I showed the kids a number on a flashcard, and they added that many chips to their board. Check out how full their boards got! 

Our letters A and B! This colorful chip, letter tracing center is always a huge hit. I love it because the kids get great practice forming their letters, and the kids love it because they get to use our magnetic wands when they are done to swoop up their magnetic chips in one scoop. Win, win!!

One great dexterity fine motor practice is making playdough "snakes". We made snakes this week with our red play dough, and then traced our capital and lowercase letter A. A is for apple, and apples are red!

And, cutting practice with our playdough. Playdough is a great medium for cutting, the kids love the squishy feel of it as their scissors cleanly cut the playdough right in half.

We celebrated another birthday this week! A very Happy Birthday to the adorable and hilarious Hilary!!

We had a great first week of school! I am already wearing a smile as I write this, knowing that I am in for a fantastic year! We centered our learning around the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle this week. We are going to work hard on recognizing and writing our names this month. These caterpillars below were great name recognition practice. Not only did we have to recognize the letters in our name, but also what order that they go in. Your children did a great job! And, to top it off, we traced the letters for some great name writing practice! 

During circle time, we read the story about the hungry caterpillar, and then we played this hungry caterpillar game where the caterpillar spins around looking for some food, and we toss fruit at him and try to get it to stick to him.

We also learned the hokey pokey letter song. This helps us practice with our straight and curvy lines. Check out our letters!

We put together some name puzzles, and then traced our names in cereal. You can do this at home as homework for some great letter formation practice. 

One of our centers taught us about small, medium, and large. We had fun putting the little miniature objects on their correct mat in size order.

We worked on our fine motor skills by stringing cereal caterpillars on pipe cleaner.

We used our light tables and straight and curvy lines to form our letters.

And, we celebrated our first birthday of the year! A very Happy Birthday to our beautiful Belle!
