Rainbows and color mixing fun!

We talked about the secondary colors this week, and had a lot of color mixing fun! What better way to show the primary and secondary colors, than with rainbows!? For a color and word recognition craft, we made these giant ice cream cones in the order of a rainbow...red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. I found the printout for this craft here.

We practiced putting our colors in the correct order of the rainbow with our rainbow colored slap bracelets. It was really fun "slapping" these bracelets over and over again!

We had some playdough in the primary colors, red, yellow and blue. At this center, we used our finger and fist muscles and mixed, mixed, mixed to make orange, green, and purple!

This center was all about light and color! It is so fun to see the kids' reactions when they make a new color combination! Watching kids learn and make connections is awesome!

We made some patterns this week. Our ice cream patterns looked good enough to eat!! The kids 

had fun deciding what flavors each color would be.

We talked about the letter C this week. Our cuddly, curly, and colorful caterpillars were super fun to make!

A great color and number recognition game that I love to play with the kids during our colors theme is Hyperdash! This is a racing game that calls out a color (or a number, depending on the setting) and each child takes a turn racing to the next color. After so many turns, the game keeps track of their time, and they try to beat their score the next time!

We played with our shape blocks, to build different things like this shape person below.

And, we talked about sizes this week. This center helped display the difference between small, medium, and large. The items look identical, other than their size.

We were able to celebrate with this cute girl this week!

The Primary Colors

Go red! Wait, go blue! This week there was no discrimination among the color red, or the color blue. :) We had equal fun with red, blue, and yellow....our primary colors. And,our whole week was centered around this trio!

For an art project, we made these primary color gumball machines. We worked on our shapes, our colors,and our counting skills!

For a math center this week, we played Connect 4, and connect 4 launchers. THE perfect game for primary colors week, right!? We worked on getting 4 in a row, and making patterns with our red and yellow chips. 

We also practiced our counting with these math stacking chips. We each took a stacking base, drew one of the numbers out of our number box, and counted out and stacked that many chips. Great number recognition, counting, and great for fine motor.

Welearned about the letters A and B this week. We enjoyed this red apple counting center and discussed how apples are a primary color, and start with the letter A to make the "ah" sound.

We also traced our letter B with glue and added primary colored buttons. B is for button, and makes the sound "buh".

We practiced forming our letter B with our magnetic chips. The best part about this is that after we are done, we get to use our "magic" (magnetic) wands to pick up our chips and start over.

We played some B ball this week! Wehad some balls that were labeled with either a uppercase or a lowercase letter B, and the kids would look at it, and make a shot into the corresponding basket. Who said learning wasn't fun?!

We practiced writing our A's and B's, (and other letters) with our magnetic writing boards. 

We workedon our cutting skills with blue playdough this week. Playdough is such a great medium to use for scissor practice! It is also really fun to cut! We talked about the color blue, and how blue starts with the letter B.

We practiced our AB and ABB primary color patterns with our primary colors counting bears.

We strengenthed our dexterity abilities by beading with our primary colors macaroni. 

We were lucky enough to celebrate two birthdays this week!
